Bios If there’s a song that John Prine hasn’t yet written, Bruce Hoffman beat him to it. His witty stories have been a staple of the Pittsburgh Songwriters Circle album series, and he’ll appear again in the project’s 15th consecutive year. Howard Davidson would feel at home spending hours with a fiddler and banjo player on a rickety back porch in an Appalachian holler. His not a Bill Monroe conformist, but there’s a traditional tinge in his rootsy acoustic guitar songs. As skilled on the fretboard as he is at the microphone, David Hawkins is a solid songwriter who spans the Americana and traditional country genres. Vince Rouse recently discovered Pittsburgh Songwriters Circle. His acoustic guitar songs are supported by a self-deprecating authenticity and wit that make his stories compelling and believable. His critiques and comments about the songs of other writers have made him a valuable part of Songwriters Circle meetings. Debbi Pace is a back porch guitar picker with a penchant for acoustic blues. Her songs are convincing, her performances radiate the fun she has onstage and for several years she’s designed the covers for Songwriters Circle CDs. There’s a sweetness in every story that Sue Gartland puts to music. Even in acoustic guitar songs about domestic sorrows, she sings the story in tone that a mother might use when calming a child.
